Residential Address: Corner of Convent Avenue, Hamilton Heights, Harlem, New York City This building was designed for a vacant corner lot. The entry takes advantage of the Convent Avenue address for its front door rather than the much narrower entry available on the side street. It also turns the requisite handicapped entrance ramp into a graceful design feature. The design here is influenced by the grand prewar apartments of New York and the work of Louis Sullivan. Convent Avenue is Harlem's most prestigious Avenue and has been since the early twentieth century. The building is of brick and limestone with elegant steel detailing on the railings. The property has been sold and is awaiting development. |
