Retail Apthorp Cleaners By far the smallest project in this portfolio, the Apthorp Cleaners was nonetheless a delightful job. Originally located in the famed eponymous building at 79th and Broadway, the cleaners had to move out when a lease there became unsupportable. Picking a location just a block away, owners Debra and Joel Kravet wanted to make a store that was a reflection of their business values. The store for this pre-eminent dry cleaner on the Upper West Side was to be attractive, efficient, customer oriented, bright and spiffy. Another goal was to try to keep it from looking as small as it actually was while fitting in all the usual furniture plus a tailor’s station and changing room. With adroit use of curves, mirrors, elegant red accents and handsome materials the tiny store glows as if happy to be back in its neighborhood. |
