Hi-Life Restaurant and Lounge

Address: 1531 Second Avenue, New York City
Square feet: 2,250
Completed: October 2007
Client: Earl Geer
Photographer: Bjorg Magnea

This restaurant evokes the glamour and the modern verve of post-WWII New York. Working closely with the owner and originator of its concept, we designed a space that maximized a modest space and an invaluable existing sidewalk café.

The Bar and Lounge area are intended to attract a strong bar crowd independent of the restaurant. This location re-instates the brand on the Upper East Side of Manhattan where a very successful Hi-Life ran for years before its host building was demolished. In fact, the bar, back bar, signage and other elements were salvaged from there, stored, and re-installed here. Thus there were distinct jigsaw puzzle aspects to the project.
