Residential This building is one of the premier adaptive reuse triumphs of the 1980s. The buidling was abandoned by the New York City Police Department in 1966 and stood vacant (and vandalized regularly) through 1981 when it was purchased and converted into a condominium. The clients purchased the apartment triplex that includes the magnificent rotunda, and are in the midst of adding the floor above the dome to the apartment to make it the most extraordinary four story apartment in New York. The new top floor comprises the four 8' diameter glass clocks, and is open to the exquisite spider-web-steel and masonry structure of the dome above. In addition to this very complex undertaking, a roof deck is also being added. Working in close collaboration with the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission, a deck has been designed that is barely visible from the street and is sensitive to the historic nature of this amazing landmark. The interiors for this project are being done by MB Interiors, the design firm of Michael Bagley. |
