30 years ago the original eponymous restaurant was founded by Ernie Backos, a second generation Greek immigrant, in the Detroit suburbs. The restaurant grew and grew, finally comprising 3 banquette halls, a restaurant, a large bar room, and the areas first patio. However, as time wore on, Ernie’s began to lose its focus and its customer base. When Ernie died in 2005, he left the restaurant to his four children. They decided to go with a nationally recognized team to bring their moribund restaurant back to life. They contacted the renowned Food Service Consultant Arlene Spiegal (www.ArleneSpiegel.com) and Associates in New York for help. Arlene recommended Warren Ashworth to handle the complete gutting an rehabilitation of the restaurant while she concentrated on the new menu, staffing, press, graphics and training necessary to transform the restaurant.
Ashworth engaged Christina Ziegler of CZ Designs (www.CZDesign.net) The Strand features our proprietary custom designed furniture, walnut wood bar and radius cut floor tiles. The exquisite selection of fabrics and wallcoverings give this room its unique feel.
